Pool Finishes

Different Types of Concrete Pool Finishes

When you think of pools, the first thing that comes to mind is the water inside them. What the pool itself is made of takes only second place. But if you want your concrete pool to last long, you must know the different types of concrete pool finish and see which one is ideal for you. Check out Eco Pool’s blog on the different types of concrete pool finishes below.

Standard Plaster

First up is plaster. Standard plaster is made by mixing white cement and silicate with water. It is one of the oldest concrete pool finishes, and it can be dyed white, blue, beige, or any other colour you like.

One good thing about plaster finish is that this material is pretty affordable. So, if you are on a budget but still want a good inground swimming pool, then plaster is a good choice. It can last anywhere between five and ten years, but it needs to be maintained properly for it to last a long time.

Plaster, naturally, has its disadvantages. It is not as smooth as other concrete pool finishes, and it needs to be maintained regularly or algae will take over. It is also susceptible to crack, streaks, and other flaws if it is not maintained regularly.

Tile

Another popular concrete pool finish is tile. What’s great about tile is that homeowners can choose from different types of tiles that suit their taste. There’s the ever-popular ceramic tiles, as well as the fine yet durable porcelain tiles. If you want something more striking, then check out glass tiles (especially iridescent ones) and stone tiles.

Tile is one of those finishes that last for many years granted that you don’t bang hard objects on it and it is cleaned regularly. It is also easy to clean and maintain.

The bad news is that tile is quite pricey compared to plaster. Plus, cracks can develop on the tile if you or your family are not careful while swimming or cleaning the pool.

Aggregate

Aggregate is made up of grounded and crushed river pebbles that are then mixed in concrete. Quartz and glass beads can also be used as aggregates.

Aggregates are commonly used in patios, driveways, and pool copings, but they can also be used as pool finish. This type of material can last anywhere between seven to ten years, depending on the quality of the material and how good the pool contractor is. Some can even last up to twenty years.

If you’re using aggregate as a concrete pool finish, then make sure to choose smaller pebbles or beads that are more comfortable to tread on. It is also pricier than standard plaster.

So there you have it, the most popular concrete pool finishes to choose from. If you’re planning to build a concrete inground swimming pool in Brisbane, then check out Eco Pools.
